in cyberspace… well, sort of

These days, I have been working on some web server load testing, and since the server is in our cyberjaya office, we decided to set up our testing base there. So here I am in this sort of desert place.
My cyberjaya colleagues make comments whenever there are many cars parked along the road side in cyberjaya, while my KL colleagues make comments whenever there are few cars near the KL office.
Anyway, I’ve never had the pleasure of ever attempting a Denial of Service attack on any server before, but I got a taste of it today. Unfortunately, the load on the server caused the server to reboot based on high operating temperatures… unlike some REAL DOS cases where the server actually prevents incoming connections.
Yeah, this place I’m in doesn’t have a cold room. And even the office airconditioning sucks. We have to open the windows to get some draft in…….. and it’s Malaysia! We have temperatures up to 40 celcius here! Just goes to show that cooling is really important for servers expecting loads of over 500 simultaneous connections. And 500 isn’t a lot, really.
