Longdrawn 2

I went to Longdrawn 2 yesterday night, a gig featuring local dreamy bands such as Furniture (formerly known as Rush), This Body Broken, KLPHQ, and Her Reverie. The Observatory from Singapore was the highlight of the evening, bringing the show to a close at 2am… at which time I had produced large amounts of snot due to allergic reactions to the smoke-filled air.
I actually don’t know much about the local indie scene. If it wasn’t for Warren and This Body Broken bandmates, I don’t think I would be seriously interested. 4 years away from home caused me to be out of touch, while Warren started becoming more and more active in the local band scene. When I got back, This Body Broken had just started their first few performances at Soul Cafe in Bangsar, and emo had not yet become a household name at the time.
But I’m glad to say that many bands have moved away from singing covers, and have started writing their own songs. Now, if only they’d be a bit more adventurous to put out some albums and get together for more gigs to showcase their talent. Sad to say that a lot of these bands either don’t take their art seriously enough to push their work further, or they have misconceptions or reservations about society’s stigma on how rock music isn’t really a vocation. Either way, it’s affecting the way these bands play their music. But at least they’re trying, and they seem to enjoy doing what they do.
