the last week

ok… i’ve been pretty quiet for the past 2 months, but here goes…. this is my last week at UC. i hope they don’t have a policy against blogging, or bloggers in particular. i just don’t want to sound ‘too’ secretive trying to hide the name of the company i’m departing.

but yeah, the fact remains that i have been quiet about leaving. why? i don’t know. i guess it doesn’t matter to people whether i leave or not, so i don’t wanna make a big fuss out of it. of course, they would gasp at my first mention of leaving, and ask why and where and when… but after that life goes on as scheduled.

i will miss my friends here, though. i remember i used to have rather dramatic quarrels with Jerica, who had the unfortunate task of testing my work. but i’m glad we’ve managed to reconcile and she’s been a really good friend. ah, well… that’s the nature of my work. i admit i do have an ego, but the testers need to do their job. in the end, i’ll blame the platform (have my reasons). but thank god that i got pulled out of that product line the middle of last year.

glad to know they’d be ready to come out for a meal, even if it means travelling the distance. i remember when i just started at UC. for the longest time, i didn’t meet anyone i could really get along with. i remember the developers all talked in mandarin but they were nice enough to ask me out for lunch once in awhile, and then realized i wasn’t really going to pick up mandarin anytime soon and let me do my own thing. then i met some folks at sales and they seemed to have their own thing going. so, after awhile i just decided to drive out and meet up with old friends.

then i met Patrick. so i didn’t go out so often anymore. haha. there was one time where we went out for lunch pretty much everyday. that was kinda weird. i dunno. my first time having a lunch buddy at work, i guess. then i kok choy and jian haur came along and we always had our 5pm coffee break. sometimes that became more than a break, but oh well. that’s a good time to enforce the flexi-hour schedule. :P

i’ll miss the time i was in bangkok with the MCA team, jian haur and tang. the food was really great. thanks to tidarat who took me and then fiance sightseeing after the work was over. and glad to have met all the thai UC folks and the many meals we had over lunch and dinner and such. bangkok is definitely a great place.

i’ll miss my boss, who gave me a lot of freedom to explore and implement solutions. i remember the most difficult time i had was when nobody wanted a better solution. especially when a better solution meant everyone else had to change their way of doing things. so, sometimes it’s just better to isolate the guy who wants a better solution and get him doing ad hoc projects instead. he can tinker around all he wants there.

ramble ramble ramble.

oh well, goodbye. thanks for the memories. let’s keep each other as friends.

just not a contemplative blogger when i’m not in the mood. :D

update: i’ve extended my leave date to next Friday (25 Mar). some outstanding issues needs to be resolved.
