I just woke up from my slumber, at 11pm. I was under a real spell as a result of a few days’ worth of developer’s cram, or whatever you wanna call it. It’s that last minute effort to build an application to showcase for a multi-billion dollar deal. All 6 of us managed to squeeze in an hour or so of sleep yesterday.

It felt really good at the end of it all. Our team managed to score kudos for the database replication and failover, which apparently wasn’t successful for previous contenders. And there was positive feedback from panel viewers regarding our proprietary web UI platform.

Despite setbacks at the very last minute (literally), we managed to demo a full registration exercise. The Sun One application server really let us down all the way, so I’m definitely one for the Tomcat camp. Easy to set up, easy to deploy, easy to run.

Throughout the 3 weeks of gruelling, mad changes in requirements, I really learnt a lot about leading, communication and projects. And a lot about my company that I am growing to love. They really gave me a shot at it, 2 months into my tenure. And everyone really backs each other up. It’s a lot of fun in a company with a headcount of 38 (and currently capped at that number).

I hope that there’ll be some positive stuff coming from the management, when I am confirmed on the job in 5 days’ time. I’m guessing it probably will be different if they didn’t put me under this kind of ‘stress test’. But ah… it was really an experience with all the challenges that cropped up.

So, I’m back on the blogging scene. Thanks to everyone who came back to check on the site. The latest headlines is that I’m now looking forward to work on OCC. Next week I’ll be heading to Singapore with Lee Lian to Baybeats and some shopping. Some diving in September will come. And I may be operating out of Cyberjaya soon. Oh, and our apartment should be ready in October. I’m looking forward to an Ikea sale, sometime soon.
