silent night holy night CNY

This is my first ever Chinese New Year away from Penang, away from my family, and it is a little weird, though very relaxing. If you have never ever ever been to Penang during Chinese New Year, then you don’t know what the meaning of bad traffic means. Okay, maybe there’s Bangkok and Bangladesh, and NYC doesn’t even come close, but the heat and humidity every CNY season in Penang is enough to make you want to go back the same day you came.
Not to mention the apparent lack of hawker food, since they too need to celebrate CNY.
This year, I decided to spend time with my wife’s family, who generally have a more laid back and relaxed way of life compared to my dad’s side of the family. We decided as a married couple we would alternate between the two families each year, so this is the 2nd year (last year I was in Penang, and my wife will vouch for the madness).
Anyway, CNY officially hasn’t kicked off yet. For me, it’ll be an interesting new experience.
