back from the yew kay
After a brief explanation from a colleague of mine about the differences between Britain, England and the United Kingdom, I still don’t know how I shouldn’t treat them all the same… but anyway, I was generally glad to be given the opportunity by my company to go there and do stuff.
My work is becoming more varied and interesting. There’s definitely less coding, for sure. The week was spent meeting up with various senior researchers in their area of study, trying to establish the proper connections with them. I also had to get a demo put in place for a team of folks whose job is to give more visibility to our R&D work. Finally, we had to attend a group event, and that was entertaining, to say the least. All in all, me and my colleague had some really good exposure to the company and business, and we’ve been discussing improvements to make in our own team.
But that’s just the work part.
In retrospect, I haven’t worked with a team I’ve had so much fun with. I think it’s because we all speak English. But it helps. I’m really looking forward to staying, and I hope the salary review will bear some suprises… especially after four years of struggling in domestic companies.
