one-leg-kick

There has been a lapse of at least two weeks since the last time I realized I thought I was moving forward. Now I’m not so sure.
After returning back from the U.K., my work has revolved around meetings, meetings and more meetings. Brainstorming sessions account for half of those, and I am led to believe that its productivity gains are often underrated. So, I shouldn’t complain.
The other meetings are updates, team-oriented markers for the various projects we’re working on. Asians don’t fare well without a boss-sense, and my boss has been tied up with various things, leaving us to do some of the decision-making work.
But honestly speaking, as a programmer, I rarely want any time other than time to myself to write code. Except I don’t have any code to write. And I suppose that is a good thing, since it’s a well known fact that programmers are at the bottom of the IT food chain around these parts. We’re known for our outsourcing potential. Even local outsourcing.
So the title on my business card is off the mark a little. I do more than just code. I do brainstorming. I do a bit of analysis. I do a bit of project management. And a bit of operations. I even do graphic design. How about business case proposals? Hey, I’m doing that too. International liasing? Perhaps. Procurement? Sure.
I wonder whether it’s like that in other countries. Are Malaysia’s executives the most flexible workforces on the planet today? I’d like to think so. But perhaps we’ve been stretched too thin.
“One Leg Kick” is a translation of a chinese saying. It means to do everything. Anything also can. Pow ka liao.
To me, that’s all fine, but I need to know where I’m heading and where I’ll end up.
