Letters from the Equator

Boon’s view from here

my new office

I’ve moved into my new office, although not everything is set up yet. And that’s actually an overstatement. The view is nice, though. I can see my old office from my first job on the horizon, since Bangsar is just a stone’s throw away. I absolutely love the fact that I can get to work in 15 minutes. I will cherish it as much as I can.

I still haven’t figured out all the places to eat, yet. There’s a food court downstairs which is stuffy but the food is cheap… I met my ex-neighbor’s mom there. She works in the MIDA building next door. Then, there are TONS of banana leaf rice restaurants. And the busy corner chinese shop is a no-brainer, pending the right day and group consensus since it is a bit of a walk. Air-conditioned KL Sentral, though convenient, is pricey.

With the LRT, everything else is within reach. Except maybe bak kut teh.

It does feel strange being so much more connected now. I’ve had lunch with Lee Lian two days in a row. Going back at 7pm doesn’t feel such a drag. The office feels so much more nimble, more alive. I feel that people are more ready to work in the new office at the start of the day.

Maybe it’s the marble atrium that greets you as you walk up the steps. Maybe it’s the city skyline or the lunch-hour traffic. Maybe it’s those ridiculously-priced designer carpets.

I don’t care. I’m just happier. And that just works.
