Normal food

Lately I’ve been wanting to be a bit more adventurous in attempting to find food in and around the Klang Valley for food that caters to “the rest of us”.

I have this impression that it’s not difficult to find fantastic variations of oriental cuisine, a spanking new nightclub, or a new trendy cafe bar. Food blogs like masak-masak and sites like friedchillies are great places to spot new talents or to find out which is the absolute best place to go for bak kut teh or yakiniku.

But when it comes to a regular night out, for a young married couple trying to find some decent food around… no one’s going to tell you that there this normal coffee shop that serves decent food. There’s not much point to go about it. No one really wants to recommend a normal coffee shop, simply because it’s just a normal coffee shop.

The funny thing is, there are literally hundreds of coffee shops around the Klang Valley, and you’ve probably only frequented ten. There are much less choices for cafes and specialty food, hence making a choice there is a no-brainer.

Anyway, my wife and I (or rather, just me) decided to revisit a really old restaurant along Jalan Brickfields called “The Pines”. My family used to go there quite a bit when I was much much younger, and I don’t really know why we don’t go there anymore.

If you know where Nagas is, you can easily spot it just beside. Conversely, it’s just down the road from the Police Station.

It’s not one of those places you really want to shout about. I didn’t even bother to take photos of my typically normal claypot tow foo dish, my ordinary plate of baby kai lan, or my less-than-spectacular black pepper chicken. It was a decent meal, albeit we should have ordered less.

But it was a quiet place, and I didn’t experience bad service, nor did my food taste bad. It was okay. And I think that’s good.
