New chapter of work
December 26th, 2006 by boon
I was hired at BT February this year – my first big jump into MNC space. I remember applying for the big jobs like mad, only getting 2 interviews out of 40 applications. I couldn’t even remember I applied for the Convergence Software Developer post, when I was called in for the interview. I almost mistook BT for Digi over the phone, but I was the wiser (only by a little).
11 months later, the man who gave me the job and led the team has left – his contract expiring the end of this year (which is not very far away). He’ll still be part of the company, but serving under a different team with a different role… and we’ve wished him well. He’ll be very missed, not just because he was a great boss… but also because he’s a great friend, mentor, and innovator.
My team leader and I will have the responsibility to bring the team forward, and I think that’s good in that it’ll teach me to make decisions and manage our work for the future. But at the same time, it’s really overwhelming as I think about it. I’m glad the team has really come together as a unit.
It’s strange how strangers work together at first and end up being best friends in the end.
I hope the next year will be even more fun, more surprising, and more immersive for all of us. I think we’ve only just seen the tip of the iceberg… I’m eager for us to sell out on ideas.
Here’s to you, Ivan… we’ll make you proud in the new year.
