All in all, I’m really happy how everything went. We were supposed to celebrate my mom’s 60th birthday, so I suggested Bangkok because I thought it would make everyone happy.

They all loved the food and shopping, and that’s all we did, pretty much… apart from going to one local temple for a short while. We wanted to visit the palace but we were too early, as the gates only opened at 2.30pm.

As for myself, I really wanted to get stuff for the new apartment. I ended up spending something like RM300 at Habitat, on table mats and a table runner, 3 soap dishes and 2 pillowcases. I also bought 3 pillowcases from a scent gift shop in chatuchak market. Pretty cool stuff.

I also saw some really nice lighting and furniture at the Suan Lum night bazaar, which I obviously couldn’t check into the plane. I’ve decided to source for these myself locally in Malaysia.

For example, I actually found a copy of the Eames Lounge Chair + ottoman, which is a cult classic for mid-century modern furniture design. The price tag was RM6800. I sat in it for a bit,… it was heavenly!

I found out that there’s a shop in Kepong that sells it for RM6000, and it’s imported from China. It’ll be awhile before I actually have the means to procure one of these.

They were also selling the Arco lamps there, but at a slightly higher price. No way I could carry that back, though.

Anyway, I got some really good ideas on how to furnish and decorate the apartment. The Suan Lum night bazaar has some really hip shops that are into all this interior design stuff. Too bad the lease is ending in a few months, and will all be forced to relocate or shut down.
