We’ve just kick-started an initiative at work to put together a starter kit, an event and some webby stuff for our soon-to-be-but-not-yet-known colleagues, a fun endeavor that summarizes the essence of the company, work and team.

I had never imagined I would get the chance to do this, citing differences in many traditional companies around here. So what makes this one so different?

My team was realized by two men who not only lived their dreams, but gave others a chance to live theirs.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, one of them had to leave, but he left a legacy to all of us to continue, and it is something we’ve treasured from the beginning.

There are three of us seniors, who have sort of given the task to take the team forward. One was promoted to a leadership role, and has provided structure and security. Another leads the human aspect, ensuring that our work and service never loses its dynamic, personal charm and people-centricness.

I’m one of the seniors who sort of leads the creative aspect of the team. I guess I see this to being given the task to inspire people to dream. Good ideas have always part of the signature quality of our team from the beginning.

It’s a privilege I hold very dearly, because ideas, no matter how business-related it is, comes from deep within a person. And I am learning to treat ideas with greater respect and sensitivity.

During a sharing session with my church youth group, one of them astonishingly said, “You get paid to come up with ideas??”

Yes, I do.
