S is for Sipadan

I can’t wait to go to Sipadan. To make my experience complete, I have to pass my PMP exam, get lots of rest and exercise, make sure my waterproof case for my camera works well, and sort of my stuff at home before I leave.
I’ll be staying on a reconditioned oil rig, converted into a sort of makeshift lodge. It’s got air conditioning! Without ample walking space along the decks, creature comforts become more pronounced. My wife’s aunt from Seattle will be with us, and having expressed her hotel standards, we may have a situation on our hands.
It’s hard not to be disappointed with Sipadan. My dad’s tenant was there last week with his wife, and I thought he might have regretted going there as he was expecting some heavy coralage, but he really loved it… Sipadan is better known for pelagics, though… a.k.a. big fish.
My wife wants to dive through the swirling tornado of barracudas and see throngs of hammerhead sharks. I want to ride on a turtle, dude. I’ve been told the wrasses are about the size of a small motorcycle… and they swim in big schools. It will be an awesome sight.
I’m counting down the days.

Hey man! It’s gonna be AWESOME! =) Sleep well and eat well! Hope you catch a glimpse of the huge mantas, too!
I miss diving…. sigh…
Hey couz, maybe you can give me a quick summary of stuff you saw when you were there.
What’s there to do on the rig? I hope it’s not going to be too boring above sea.
Sipadan has it’s own unique, mysterious vibe. I’ve been there once when I was a teenager. I don’t dive, but even just swimming in the shallows – it was teeming with sealife! Turtles too.
It’s freaky – you are walking on pure white sand, the skies are brillant blue, and then suddenly you come to the edge…and it’s blacker than midnight.
The line is so clear it’s eerie – one side light, and just one step takes you over to the deep ocean. *brrr* I got chills even though it was brillantly hot.
If you are going into the tunnels, take care and don’t kick the sand!!
Have a great trip
we are in k,lumpa at present just getting ready to leave for the rig to dive .very exited after diving on the suga wreck in the perhentian with 5mtr viz .. cant wait.
