Letters from the Equator

I had this happen to me over the weekend, and I’m still recovering from it. Some moisture of sorts started building up a lot all of a sudden in my left ear. It was wet and felt uncomfortable, and it wouldn’t go away.

The doctor gave me a bottle of Cerumol, and some anti-biotics just in case there was an infection, but I still feel really weird.

I don’t know which one feels more uncomfortable… the fact that I have extra amounts of ear wax built up, or having 5 drops of Cerumol (which smells weird) over and above the ear wax.
If I turn my head one way, sometimes, my whole ear gets blocked. Then I hear stuff like I’m underwater.

“GGHWTT??”

“HRRHH??”

The Cerumol site claims I should never stick ANYTHING into my ear. Not even cotton buds (or cotton swabs, as some people call them).

I actually have a habit of using those metal ear diggers you can get at the night market. They make you feel nice. But I guess feelings are subjective.

The next level of treatment involves some kind of manual process where the physician uses a tool to suck or blow the wax out… and whatever has developed in there. If this thing doesn’t go away, I may have to resign myself to this.
I just hope it’s over soon. I want to go diving.
