Prime Minister passed by our booth

My company took part in this year’s SMIDEX exhibition, as we did the last year. The team was rushing to put things together, and we’ve had our share of arguments, frustrations, sweat and complications.

One of the biggest headaches we had was how not to have a repeat event of last year’s demo failure when we presented it to the Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi. After fire-y battles and mumblings over what should be done, we finally got it all planned out.

It took no less than 3 people at specific places, and the others to ensure traffic was diverted the right way. Various visual cues were set up at the very last minute to entice his wandering eyes.

When the entourage came, he was distracted by the opposite booth. And that was pretty much it. After about 5 minutes of loitering around, he waddled out of that booth and away from us, along with the smattering of media personnel, bodyguards and random dignitaries.

Our boss muttered a soft, “thank you”, and it was as if the whole day ended there.

I won’t comment about how we felt, since I think it was mixed. It was probably good that we weren’t given a chance to fail, but then, we weren’t given a chance to shine either.

It was equally eventful, either way. I just know I’m not cut out for events and public hand-shaking.
