I must thank my wife for organizing and paying for a weekend trip up to Genting Highlands. Even though we didn’t play the rides and gamble our life savings away, we still had a lot of fun.

It was dearly misty up there, and she seemed to like that a lot. I’ve had my fair share of cold weather enough not to have a knee-jerk reaction to it. But then, I’m fairly unresponsive to many common stimuli.

That being said, I’ve always downplayed my expectations on my birthdays, particularly because ever since I was 13, birthdays just weren’t so fun anymore.

There were some exceptions, though.

Last year I was given a really fantastic birthday bash, coincidentally in Genting as well, and was presented a wonderful gift of the Cranium boardgame. I believe it was a year before that that my high school buddies bought me Puerto Rico. So boardgames and birthdays go together well with me.

This year’s placid celebration has been mildly retrospective – in that a year has passed with some notable memories – the 146, the apartment, some stuff about work i don’t really want to discuss, sipadan, IKEA furniture, and other general goodness.

I may yet be rid of my Flora unit – of which I am praying hard. That will add to my list of presents and well-wishes this year.
