Fourth time in Bali

Offerings, originally uploaded by jaremfan.
I decided to make my fourth trip to Bali a photographic excursion. I felt sad for my dad, who at the 11th hour, discovered that his camera’s CF connection pin was broken, and couldn’t bring his camera along.
Nevertheless, I took all the opportunity I got to take as many pictures as I could. Some of the stuff came out nice. Some didn’t turn out too well.
I’ve been particularly interested in how some photographs are so captivating that it doesn’t take an idiot to realize that it’s brilliant. I want to make photographs like that. Thank you, Flickr interestingness.
Anyway, most of Bali was just sitting in the van and Ubud. I think Ubud isn’t meant to be a day trip. The next time I’m going to Bali, I’m just going to stay in one of those cottages near the paddy fields, and stroll around the countryside and art shops.
If you haven’t been to Bali, you should.
It’s just such an interesting place. It really is one of those tourist destinations that people keep coming back to. If not for the beaches, then for the culture. Or the temples. Or the art. Or the fact that there are so many good resorts to try out - both big and small.
The only other place I would frequent so often is Bangkok, but for entirely different reasons.
The one thing I did manage to try, that I had not before, was the Balinese spa. In fact, this is the first time I have ever stepped into a spa - the kind where they paste all sorts of liquid all over your body.
The massage was adequate. I think I would’ve preferred being pressed and pushed around a bit more. It didn’t quite feel like my muscles were through with the session.
Also, I could’ve done without being marinated like cold meat - it made my skin smell like flowers, sure… but I never quite liked the feeling of sitting there naked and sticky for hours. It took me a good 20 minutes to wash the thing off.
Strangely enough, my wife wasn’t with me on this trip. Guess where she was?
Bangkok.
She spent an undisclosed amount of money over affordable dresses, bags, shoes, belts, and accessories. Good for her. All I got were photographs.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy them:
